Pullman and Ibis hotels to be built at BNE

Following from our previous post here, further details have emerged about the two new hotels to be constructed near the domestic terminal.

Accor have announced they will open a Pullman and a Ibis Hotel at Brisbane Airport’s Domestic Terminal Precinct with construction to be completed in November 2016.

The new five star Pullman Hotel will feature 130 rooms, leisure and lap pools, 24 hour room service and extensive business facilities including an executive gym and top floor executive club lounge and bar.

The new three and a half star Ibis will offer 243 rooms, alfresco restaurant and bar, roof top bar and lounge.

With a rooftop bar and lounge planned for the Ibis hotel, maybe some plane spotting opportunities will be available while enjoying the views and a cold beverage.

Our Airline to rebrand as Nauru Airlines

Nauru's national airline carrier, Our Airline, is rebranding and changing its name to Nauru Airlines.

Its chief executive, Geoff Bowmaker, says the new name will apply from August the 1st. He says the Our Airline name has served the company well for the past eight years but he says the new name recognises the proud history of Nauru's aviation and the natural and primary role of its airline in servicing the people of Nauru.

The change comes as the airline prepares to bring a 737 freight aircraft into service.

RAAF Hawks transit Coolangatta

Totally off topic however we generally don't see many fighter jets visiting civilian airports within the greater Brisbane area except for RAAF Amberley. When I heard the RAAF BAe Hawk 127 Lead-in Fighters were making a fuel stop at the Gold Coast enroute to exercise High Sierra in Townsville, I couldn't resist the opportunity to soak up the noise and get up close with these high performance aircraft.

The BAe Hawk 127 Lead-in Fighter is used for initial training to prepare aircrew for operational conversion to the F/A-18 Hornet fighter. Powered by a single Adour Mk 871 turbofan engine the BAe Hawk 127 is an advanced trainer with a two-man tandem cockpit and a low-mounted cantilever wing.

Please enjoy these pictures taken at Coolangatta (YBCG) on the 13th June and 27th June.
