Runway 19 threshold surface damage

Following the departure of Emirates EK434 to Auckland today, operated by Airbus A380 A6-EDE, it was reported that there was surface damage to the threshold area of runway 19. Runway 19 was subsequently closed to all landing traffic after 08:46 causing several flights to divert. Only aircraft up to and including Boeing 737-700 size continued to land on the smaller cross runway 14. Departing aircraft were unnafected by using an intersection departure at taxiways A3 or A4. A displaced threshold was installed south of A3 allowing a Virgin 737-800 VA1114 VH-VUZ to land on runway 19 at 10:08. The airport is currently still operating with the displaced touchdown point for arrivals on runway 19.
