Flashback: Mandarin Airlines

Mandarin Airlines (Taiwan) a subsidiary of China Airlines commenced scheduled flights to Brisbane on 27th October 1997. The first flight was operated by Boeing 747SP B-1880. The airline operated a once weekly Sydney - Brisbane - Taipei flight and also a once weekly Taipei - Brisbane - Sydney flight. A mix of Boeing 747SP and MD11 aircraft were used.

On August 8, 1999, Mandarin Airlines merged with Formosa Airlines, which was a Taiwanese airline which mainly operated domestic routes. The International routes were handed back to China Airlines however Brisbane flights were dropped.
