Flashback: Impulse Airlines

Impulse Airlines was born on 18th December 1992 after taking control of Port Maquarie based Oxley Airlines. Impulse commenced regional operations in March 1994 with the airline affiliated with the Ansett frequent flyer programe and displaying 'AN' flight numbers. The airlines regional operations were operated by five Jetstream 41 aircraft and a growing fleet of Beechcraft 1900Ds. The airline also leased two BAe 748-2B aircraft between 1994 and 1995. The airlines's five Jetstream 41s were withdrawn from use in June 1995 and were stored at Adelaide for some time before being returned to JSX Capital Corp.

Impulse greatly expanded its operations in April 2000 when the first of five Boeing 717-200s arrived in Sydney. Impulse operated its first B717 flight to Brisbane on April 28th 2000 when Boeing 717-23S VH-AFR arrived from Sydney.

The airline announced a commercial agreement with Qantas during May 2001 which saw Impulse withdraw from operating services in its own right. Qantas then contracted Impulse's aircraft and crews to operate leisure routes on behalf of Qantaslink. Impulse ceased all Boeing 717 flights on 22nd May 2001 and the airline was completely absorbed into Qantaslink by November 2001.
